Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won the Conservative Political Action Conference?s straw poll.
Romney garnered 38 percent support, besting second place Rick Santorum by seven percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich came in third place with 15 percent while Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who was the only presidential contender not to deliver a speech at the conference, finished last with 12 percent.
More than 3,400 attendees of the 3-day conservative extravaganza cast ballots, according to poll administer Tony Fabrizio.
Romney had won the straw poll three times previously, from 2007 through 2009. Paul emerged victorious in each of the past two years.
The straw poll also indicated that CPAC attendees prefer Florida Sen. Marco Rubio to be the 2012 vice-presidential nominee.
The poll was sponsored by the Washington Times.
