The 68th Venice Film Festival is nearly upon us once again, Aug 31. The annual Festival is the oldest in the world, founded in 1932 by Count Giuseppe Volpi.
It?s been rumoured that George Clooney?s own production, The Ides of March (2011) will be the opening movie. No such official announcement has been made, but a source, unauthorized to speak for the event, has confirmed the selection on Monday.
The movie is slated for an October 14 2011 time limited release, then a wide release in January 2012. The script was written by Clooney and Grant Heslov. Clooney produced and directed the movie, and also stars in it. Sony Pictures Entertainment bought the distribution rights for the U.S. and Canada, but Exclusive Media Group will handle international distribution. The movie was financed by Appian Way Productions, Cross Creek Pictures, Exclusive Media Group and Smoke House Pictures. Sony wanted Clooney to keep the play?s original title, but The Ides of March had already been agreed upon.
The film is an adaptation of the Broadway play Farragut North, by Beau Willimon. The movie is a political drama centering on a young press spokesman (Ryan Gosling), and sees him falling foul to backroom politics. The film stars George Clooney, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Ryan Gosling and Evan Rachel Wood.
